Client Feature: Kevin Komatsu

Kevin Komatsu started at Vintage Pilates the month we opened our doors. A dentist by trade, he is a dedicated practitioner who comes twice a week to workout, and take advantage of our bodywork offerings.

Some of the things Sandy most enjoys about teaching Kevin are his discipline, his athleticism and his inquiring mind. Despite his heavy work schedule, Kevin never misses a lesson or a bodywork session unless he goes out of town.

He is a good athlete and plays golf regularly, so he is very aware of his body mechanics and movement in general. Kevin is up to any challenge, and keeps all his teachers on their toes with his questions about Pilates and its philosophy. We are so happy to have both him and his wife, Irine as students at Vintage Pilates.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER PILATES?

My wife purchased me a package to get me to workout. Initially, I was not interested in Pilates, but it has become a part of my lifestyle.

HOW DOES PILATES AFFECT YOUR LIFE?

I had back surgery and practiced dentistry, and through the years lived with a backache. After working out for a year with Karen and Sandy, my back stopped hurting and I can work comfortably and think of my back. It has improved my quality of life beyond my expectations.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE?

The Teaser, because it took me a long time before I could perform that move.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?

I look forward to meeting Ken [Krech, Kevin’s regular instructor] every week because he challenges me. I know that Pilates has prolonged my career.
